How to get your app noticed in the iTunes store

The answer... is design

Posted by Blaine Bertsch — June 3rd, 2010

According to contributor Tim Tang at Wirelessnorth.ca "What is truly important, and the more difficult question to answer, is how to improve monetisation and increase revenue per app. In my research, I found two actionable recommendations for App Store developers. Both recommendations resonate with bigger issues in Canada and around the world today: how to become more competitive in the knowledge economy and how to commercialise digital media assets? The answer, as Jacek Utko has eloquently put it on TED, is design."

We wholeheartedly agree. Our focus on design and user-experience guides our decisions in our software development. We think it's working. Although niche products, our apps routinely rank well in the iTunes store. 'Fishing Knots' in particular, generally ranks in the top 200 sellers in the sports category in 30 to 40 countries daily. Most notably the app ranks in the top 100 sports app in USA and the UK and the top 50 in Canada and Australia, our largest markets. That places 'Fishing Knots' in the 99.995 precentile in sports apps. 'Fishing Knots' has even broken into the top 300 of overall app sales in a few countries over the last month. We credit the design and user experience for our ranking. We don't offer the most knots but we do offer a terrific design and clear instructions for tying many of the most popular fishing knots.

Fission Releases ABto2010 App

Posted by Cameron Wakal — February 12th, 2010

Just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, we've released a handheld guide to the Olympic athletes and artists from Alberta entitled ABto2010. This new app is sponsored by WinSport Canada in partnership with the Government of Alberta. The app connects users to when and where Alberta’s athletes will be competing and highlights the musical artists who will be playing live at Alberta Plaza each night of the Games. News feeds will enable you to keep up-to-date on how they’re doing, and maps will show you when and where to find them.

And we haven’t forgotten the many other handheld users out there. Working in collaboration with web developer Balance Media, the two high tech companies have created a website at ABto2010.com for easy access by BlackBerry and other handhelds. The goal is to make sure users can easily track Albertan athletes and musical performers at the Games.
